EPIK (English Program In Korea), affiliated to the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology invites responsible and enthusiastic native English speakers to conduct English conversation classes for Korean primary, middle or secondary public school students to promote and strengthen English language education in Korea.
EPIK teachers have regular working hours and as Korean government employees, the jobs are secure. EPIK teachers will never be released from their contracts for budget, institutional problems nor for preferential reasons. Also being an only National English Teaching Program sponsored by the Korean government, EPIK can carry more weight on your resume. Your teaching experience in EPIK also has more prestige and can bring widespread recognition in a local community or even in a city or province. EPIK can provide you a great launching point for an English (ESL/EFL) teaching career.

ELIGIBILITY:
EPIK participants require NO TEACHING EXPERIENCE but must meet the following basic eligibility requirements:
• Be a citizen of a country where English is the primary language: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, UK or USA.
• Must have studied from the junior high level (7th grade) and resided for at least 10 years or more in one of the above countries.
• Ethnic Koreans with legal residency in a country where English is the primary language can apply, but must provide proof of English education beginning from the junior high school level.
• Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or will be graduating before January 2012) in any discipline from an accredited university.
• Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean culture and living.
• TESOL/TEFL/Teaching certificate would be an asset.
LOCATION OF POSITION:
Public schools and Korean government Educational Institutions throughout South Korea
CONTRACT PERIOD:
• February 25th, 2012 – February 24th, 2013 (length of the contract is one year)
• The contract is subject to renewal thereafter
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS (Working hours and duties):
• Working hours: 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
• Teaching hours: 22 hours (classes) per week during the school hours.
• Conduct English conversation classes for Korean Public School students and teachers.
• Prepare teaching materials for English language education.
• Assist in developing teaching materials for English language education.
• Assist with activities related to English language education and other extracurricular activities.
• Assist Korean teachers with their English classes and/or jointly conduct English classes.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
• Salary: Monthly salary from 2.0-2.85 Million Korean Won depending on your qualifications and the location you teach ($25,000-31,000 USD annum before overtime pay).
• Free Roundtrip Airfare: Provided in the form of Entrance and Exit Allowances).
• Free Furnished Housing: Single studio-type housing provided.
• Paid Vacations: Minimum 21+ calendar days per year in addition to the national holidays (12-14 days) or 5-8 weeks paid vacation in some provinces.
• Government Medical Plan: Pursuant to the National Medical Insurance Act, 50% of your medical insurance premiums will be paid by your host POE. This medical insurance will allow you to receive medical attention and prescription medicines at a fraction of their original cost.
• National Pension Scheme: Pursuant to the Korean National Pension Corporation Act, 50% of your compulsory pension contributions will be paid by your host POE. At present, only EPIK English teachers holding American, Australian and Canadian citizenship are eligible for a lump-sum pension refund upon successfully completing their contract and departing Korea.
• Severance Pay: Equals to approximately one month's salary.
• Settlement Allowance: 300,000 Won ($270 USD).
• Renewal Allowance: 2,000,000 KRW ($1,800 USD) will be provided upon successful completion and renewal of your contract with the same POE.
• Tax Exemption: 2 years of income tax exemption (except for Canadians and Irish).
• No recruitment charges to you.
